Giving a certain symmetry to the posts this week, today in 1926, Eamon De Valera left Sinn Fein and proceeded to found Fianna Fail.

He had become frustrated by Sinn Fein’s refusal to enter into politics in a meaningful way and to instead ignore the political institutions of the Irish Free State.
